At approximately six years of age, she placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior. When she was in junior high school, her family became involved in the ministry of a new church, Lakeland Baptist Church, Gilbert, Minnesota. At age eighteen, Joy was baptized by immersion and became a member of the church.
